Step 3: Start lesson 1 and have a look around
Students will practice measuring millimetres and centimetres with accuracy by completing a range of measuring challenges.
Students will convert between metres, centimetres and millimetres using tape diagrams. They will also explore how multiplication is connected to converting measurements and complete different challenge cards.
Students will explore the connection between kilometres and metres. They will add distances and convert between the units using tape diagrams and complete an activity that involves tracking each hiker’s routes.
Students will apply their knowledge of perimeters to design dinosaur enclosures that meet specific perimeter requirements.
Students will explore the formula for finding the area of rectangles and apply it to creating pools with specific areas.
Students will explore the formula for finding the area of rectangles and apply it to creating gardens with specific areas.
Students will explore temperature and inquire into how to read thermometers.
Students will estimate, measure and record mass in this fun, hands-on lesson. They will convert between kilograms and grams using tape diagrams. Students will explore the mass of objects in your classroom using weighing scales.
Students will read measuring cylinders and explore capacity/volume, including making estimations and converting between litres and millilitres.
Students will recap and apply the different units of measurement that they have explored during this unit. They will take part in a fun-filled ‘Metric Olympics’.
