Lesson 2: Introduction to skip counting to multiply
Students will use skip counting as a strategy to solve multiplication problems by counting forward in equal intervals. This approach helps them see multiplication as repeated addition and builds their number sense. They will practice this skill by playing a game called Island Capture.

Students will use flexible thinking to manipulate numbers and subtract larger numbers effectively. They will use their knowledge and skills to help animals choose books to purchase.
Lesson 11: Solving word problems
Students will use their addition and subtraction skills and REPS strategy to solve word problems.
Lesson 10: Applying column method to subtract 3-digit numbers
Students will apply column method to subtract up to 3-digit numbers. They will utilise their skills to play a subtraction Bingo game.
Lesson 9: Using column method to subtract 3-digit numbers
Students will explore how to use column method to subtract. They will gain a conceptual understanding on how to regroup from larger place values through concrete and pictorial examples. They will use their knowledge to find the amount of treasure each pirate ship has lost.
Lesson 8: Applying split/jump strategy to calculate change
Students will apply jump strategy and split strategy to help customers calculate change at a yard sale.
Lesson 7: Using jump and split strategy to subtract 2-digit numbers
Students will be asked to investigate how they could use their knowledge of jump and split strategy and apply it to subtraction. They will then have the opportunity to refine and apply this strategy with a problem-solving activity that involves finding the missing amounts from each animal’s story.
