Lesson 6: Let’s use split strategy

Split strategy involves splitting numbers into each place value amount to create an easier method to mentally add. In this lesson, students will play Split ‘n Sketch, a creative game that involves drawing a chicken.
Lesson 5: Let’s use jump strategy

Jump strategy is a mental math strategy used to manipulate and solve addition problems effectively. Students will break down the smallest number into smaller chunks, then add each chunk to the larger number using a number line. This strategy helps provide a strong foundation for mental addition.
Lesson 4: Let’s use doubles to add

We will manipulate doubles and ‘near doubles’ (numbers that are very close to each other) in order to develop our flexible-thinking skills.
Lesson 3: Let’s add using bridging to ten strategy

Bridging to the next ten strategy involves adding a number in parts to another number to get to the next highest ten. This is a helpful strategy that can be applied to more complex problems and used with other strategies.
Lesson 2: Let’s find the next multiple of ten

This lesson will explore how to add to an amount to create a total that equals the next multiple of ten. This will provide the foundation for bridging to the next ten strategy used in lesson 3.
Lesson 1: Let’s make 10

We will recap and visually explore number bonds to 10 using ten frames and part-whole models.
Lesson 17: Let’s show what we know!

Students will show their knowledge of all the key ideas from this place value unit. Please note, you can either complete an onscreen assessment or a printed version of the assessment.
Lesson 16: Let’s apply place value knowledge

Students will consolidate their place value knowledge and use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to complete number puzzles/riddles.
Lesson 15: Let’s apply rounding to the nearest 100 skills

Students will apply their knowledge of rounding numbers to the nearest hundred to play a fun game called Fruit Salad Scramble.
Lesson 14: Let’s round to the nearest 100

Students will continue to use the number line strategy to round to the nearest 100. They will round sand castle competition amounts.
