Lesson 2: Let’s apply number bond skills to add mentally

Students will use their number bond knowledge along with other strategies, such as doubles and near doubles, to find ‘number buddies’, which are numbers that are easier to add together than others. Students will play a game called Number Buddies.
Lesson 1: Let’s explore near doubles and number flexibility

Students will manipulate doubles and ‘near doubles’ (numbers that are very close to each other) to develop their addition skills and gain more of an understanding of how numbers are flexible. Students will practice adding doubles and near doubles with an activity that involves matching odd socks.
Lesson 15: Let’s show what we know!

Students will show their knowledge of all the key ideas from this place value unit. Please note, you can either complete an onscreen assessment or a printed version of the assessment.
Lesson 14: Let’s apply place value skills

Students will consolidate their place value knowledge and use critical thinking skills to solve a series of puzzles. They will apply their knowledge of expanding, rounding, regrouping, comparing and writing whole numbers and decimals.
Lesson 13: Let’s apply our regrouping skills

Students will apply their new regrouping knowledge in this lesson. They will use our problem-solving skills when working out which character has won their block building competition.
Lesson 12: Let’s regroup amounts

Through visuals, students will explore how each place value column is 10x greater than the last and use this knowledge to regroup amounts. They will find the real value of the animals’ place value pictures.
Lesson 11: Let’s compare decimal numbers

Students will recap the value of tenths and explore the value of hundredths, along with the connection between them. They will also use decimal numbers to the hundredths in number, picture and word form. Students will make paper planes and time how long they stay in the air!
Lesson 10: Let’s write and draw decimal numbers

Students will explore the value of tenths and represent decimal numbers (to tenths) in picture and word form. They will use their knowledge by helping farmers find the weight of their crops.
Lesson 9: Let’s round to the nearest 1,000

Students will use the number line strategy to round numbers to the nearest 1,000. They will practice our rounding skills by playing a game called Eggs in a Basket.
Lesson 8: Let’s round numbers to the nearest hundred

Students will explore rounding to the nearest 100 and continue to apply their knowledge of rounding to 10. They will use their skills to play a game called Flip ‘n Roll Rounding.
