Students will manipulate doubles and ‘near doubles’ (numbers that are very close to each other) in order to develop their addition skills and gain more of an understanding of how numbers are flexible. They practice adding doubles and near doubles with an activity that involves matching odd socks.

Lesson 14: Applying regrouping skills

Students will apply their new regrouping knowledge to at least the thousands column. They will use their problem-solving skills when working out which character has won their block building competition.
Lesson 13: Introduction to regrouping

Through visuals, students will explore how each place value column is 10x greater than the last and use this knowledge to regroup amounts. Students will create place value sculptures and regroup the amounts used.
Lesson 12: Introduction to decimals – hundredths

Students will recap the value of tenths and explore the value of hundredths, along with the connection between them. They will make paper planes and record their air time, then represent the time in pictures, numbers and words.
