Lesson 1: Let’s use bump strategy to add mentally
Bump strategy is a strategy that manipulates an addition problem by adjusting one of the amounts to a round number, then doing the opposite to the other number to create an amount equal to the original number sentence. Students will use bump strategy to order food for customers and stay within their budgets.
Lesson 7: Let’s round to the nearest whole number
In this lesson, students will practice rounding decimals to the nearest whole number. They will play a game, called Peas In The Pod, to practice rounding.
Lesson 6: Let’s label decimals on a number line
Students will apply their decimal knowledge to identify scale and decimals on a number line.
Lesson 5: Let’s continue to order decimals
Students will consolidate their understanding of comparing and ordering decimals by applying their knowledge for a critical-thinking game called the Ice Block Challenge.
Lesson 4: Let’s order decimals
Students will consolidate their understanding of comparing and ordering decimals by putting the sea creatures’ race results in order.
Lesson 3: Let’s round to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000 and 10,000
Students will use the number line strategy to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000 and beyond. They will create random numbers and explore how many different ways they can be rounded.
Lesson 2: Let’s compare large numbers
Students will use the <> symbols to compare numbers. This lesson explores the conceptional reasoning in expanded form, before comparing numbers in standard form. Students will play a game called Risk.
Lesson 1: Let’s recap place value and expanding numbers
Students will recap their place value knowledge and identify the value of the digits in a number. They will expand numbers whilst playing Expandables, a fun points game that also involves adding.
Lesson 20: Let’s show what we know!
Students will show their knowledge of all the key ideas from this multiplication unit. Please note, you can either complete an onscreen assessment or a printed version of the assessment.
Lesson 19: Let’s solve word problems
Students will use their multiplication knowledge and skills to problem-solve and solve a mystery that involves finding a cupcake criminal.
