Lesson 11: Introduction to decimals: thousandths

Students will continue to explore decimals. This time they will use thousandths, along with tenths and hundredths. The lesson will cover the connection between each of the decimal place value columns, reading decimals as words and ordering decimals. This lesson will involve judging a space jumping competition.
Lesson 10: Introduction to decimals: tenths and hundredths

Students will explore the value of tenths and hundredths and their connections. Students will order decimal numbers. This lesson also involves reading decimals written in words. Students will use their knowledge to put the animals’ race results in order.
Lesson 9: Applying rounding skills

Students will continue to develop their rounding skills. They will round numbers to the nearest ten, hundred and thousand. Students will have another chance to play the Risk It For The Biscuit game with rounding challenges.
Lesson 7: Calculating the area of rectangles

Students will explore the formula for finding the area of rectangles and apply it to creating dance floors with specific areas.
Lesson 8: Rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000

Students will round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000 using a number line strategy. Students will create random numbers to round.
Lesson 7: Applying place value knowledge

Students will apply their place value knowledge to solve clues and find out what ridiculous activities each of the monsters completed on camp.
Lesson 6: Writing numbers in written form (No. 2)

Students will write large numbers in written form and apply the knowledge learnt in the previous lesson by going on a shopping spree.
Lesson 6: Calculating perimeter using compound shapes

Students will find the perimeter of compound shapes with missing lengths. They will use their knowledge to calculate the perimeter of the animals’ paddocks.
Lesson 5: Writing numbers in written form (No. 1)

Students will practice writing large numbers in written form by writing cheques. They will explore when to use hyphen/commas and use the ‘hotel’ technique for support.
Lesson 5: Calculating perimeter

Students will explore finding the perimeter of 2D shapes, including compound shapes. They will calculate the perimeter of different enclosures for mythical creatures.
