Lesson 8: US Measurement Assessment

This is a summative assessment that covers the key objectives from this measurement unit.
Lesson 7: Measurement Olympics!

Students will recap and apply the different units of measurement that they have explored during this unit. They will do this by ‘competing’ in the Measurement Olympics, which is a fun series of measurement challenges.
Lesson 6: Estimate, measure and compare distance

Students will brainstorm at least three objects they would like to measure. After creating their list, they will estimate the length of each item, carefully measure it, and compare their estimates with the actual measurements.
Lesson 5: Adding and subtracting measurements

Students will complete a series of word problems that involve adding and subtracting distance measurements. Students will solve an animal lineup challenge whilst solving their word problems.
Lesson 4: Comparing measurements in cm and m

Students will explore centimeters and meters and use tape diagrams to convert between the measurements. They will apply their knowledge when completing a range of measurement challenges.
Lesson 3: Measuring length with accuracy

Students will practice measuring length with accuracy and drawing lines to a specific length, by completing a range of measuring challenges to create a picture.
Lesson 2: Exploring standard units of measurement

Students will explore different units of measurement (inches, feet, centimeters and meters) and identify when to use each type of measurement in real-life situations.
Lesson 1: Exploring non-standard units (distance)

Students will explore and measure with non-standard units of measurement and inquire into why standard units are used around the world. They will use non-standard units of measurement.
Lesson 13: Reflecting shapes

Students will reflect shapes across vertical and horizontal mirror lines.
Lesson 12: Identifying lines of symmetry

Students will identify lines of symmetry.
