Lesson 5: Let’s use jump and split strategy to subtract mentally

Students will apply jump and split strategy skills to subtract mentally. They will use our skills to solve power grid investigation questions.
Lesson 4: Let’s use rounding and mental strategies to problem-solve

Students will use rounding and mental strategies to problem-solve and find the items that each animal purchased.
Lesson 3: Let’s explore compensation strategy

Compensation strategy involves rounding one number to make the number sentence easier to add. The amount rounded is either added or subtracted afterwards to compensate. Students will gain further skills and understanding on number flexibility and how to manipulate numbers to solve problems effectively. They will play a game called Boom Chaka-Laka
Lesson 2: Let’s add using bump strategy

Bump strategy is a strategy that manipulates an addition problem by adjusting one of the amounts to a round number, then doing the opposite to the other number to create an amount equal to the original number sentence. Students will play a game called ‘In the Zone’.
Lesson 11: Let’s apply addition to add 3 multi-digit numbers

Students will use addition strategies to solve challenges and add 3 amounts. This lesson involves problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to complete different challenges.
Lesson 1: Let’s explore mental addition strategies

This lesson explores mental addition strategies that students might already know. Students will specifically explore jump and split strategy addition. They will order ice cream scoops for monsters.
Lesson 12: Let’s show what we know!

Students will show their knowledge of all the key ideas from this place value unit. Please note, you can either complete an onscreen assessment or a printed version of the assessment.
Lesson 11: Let’s solve place value puzzles

Students will consolidate their place value knowledge and use critical thinking skills to solve a series of place value puzzles. They will apply their knowledge of expanding, rounding, regrouping, comparing and writing whole numbers and decimals.
Lesson 10: Let’s round to the nearest whole number

Students will explore rounding decimals to the nearest whole number by using a number line. They will play a game called Peas in a Pod.
Lesson 9: Let’s explore decimals

Students will continue to explore decimals. In this lesson, they will use thousandths, along with tenths and hundredths. They will explore the connection between each of the decimal place value columns, reading decimals as words and ordering decimals. Students will judge a space jumping competition.
